This virtual reality training is designed to help workers practice and demonstrate proficiency in inspecting hand and power tools before use, ensuring they and their coworkers stay safe from potential hazards on the jobsite.

This Virtual Reality (VR) module is designed to provide an immersive and interactive learning experience. However, please be aware that some individuals may experience discomfort, including motion sickness, eye strain, or disorientation, while using VR technology. We recommend limiting each VR session to around 30 minutes and taking regular breaks to mitigate these risks. Always ensure your physical safety when using VR, being mindful of your real-world surroundings. This VR module is intended to supplement, not replace, traditional training methods.

The learner will inspect a variety of realistic virtual reality (VR) models of hand and power tools. The scenario begins with the learner putting on standard PPE for a construction site. Once equipped, they will choose to start with either hand tools or power tools, selecting and inspecting four tools from each category. The course is designed for the learner to have a personalized experience that reflects real-world jobsite tasks.

For each tool, the learner will complete a two-step process: a visual inspection followed by a functionality test to ensure safe operation. When a selected tool requires additional PPE such as a dust mask or a face shield, the learner will be prompted to equip it before proceeding. Tools are marked as “OK” or “Defective” based on condition and performance. After all eight tools have been inspected a report summarizes which tools passed inspection and which were flagged as unsafe.

The scenario concludes with the learner reviewing their final report, reinforcing the importance of proper tool checks for jobsite safety.

Hand tools include a chisel, hammer, handsaw, pliers, screwdriver, shovel, utility knife, and wrench. Power tools include an air compressor, angle grinder, circular saw, generator, jackhammer, masonry drill, nail gun, reciprocating saw, and table saw.
