Canada Hours of Service Training
J. J. Keller’s Canada Hours of Service Driver Training will help you familiarize your drivers with Canada's electronic logging device mandate as well as give them an understanding of how hours of service limits affect safety and productivity.
Time is limited. No one can add a minute to an hour, day, or week. For professional drivers, time is further limited by the hours of service regulations. The purpose of the hours of service regulations is to keep tired drivers off the road. After many hours behind the wheel, fatigue sets in and can lead to bad decisions and deadly crashes. For the safety of all drivers, compliance with the hours of service regulations is required of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers.
The Canada Hours of Service Training curriculum will help drivers and carriers be compliant while maximizing available hours through a full understanding of how the limits affect safety and productivity.
You need proof that you're tracking your hours and complying with the limits. Recording hours is done electronically, manually, or by keeping a time record. The method you need depends on the type of operation, how often and far you drive, and the equipment you use.
You also need to know where you're going and how you're going to get there. That's where a trip plan comes in. The hours of service record at the end of a productive day will match up almost perfectly with the plan. It's no "accident" because there's no rush and no surprises.
The Canada Hours of Service training curriculum includes seven modules:
Canada Hours of Service Driver Training Module 1: Basics
This training course is designed to cover the fundamentals of Canadian hours-of-service regulations and what it means to be regulated.
Canada Hours of Service Driver Training Module 2: Limits South of 60th Parallel
This training program is designed to help drivers operating south of 60°N comply with the hours-of-service limits by ensuring they understand how each of the limits or clocks work together.
Canada Hours of Service Driver Training Module 3: Limits North of 60th Parallel
This training program is designed to help drivers operating north of 60°N comply with the hours-of-service limits by ensuring they understand how each of the limits or clocks work together.
Canada Hours of Service Driver Training Module 4: Record of Duty Status
This training program is designed to teach drivers when each type of record can be used and how each is evaluated during a roadside inspection.
Canada Hours of Service Driver Training Module 5: Exceptions
This training program is designed to help drivers understand which exceptions can be used and when to use them.
Canada Hours of Service Driver Training Module 6: ELD Basics
This training program is designed to help drivers compliantly use ELDs, and correctly use the special driving categories of personal use and yard move.
Canada Hours of Service Driver Training Module 7: Manual Logs
This training program is designed to help drivers understand which fields are required to accurately prepare their record of duty status and how to complete a recap to avoid violations.
