Participant questions, when handled effectively, can enhance your training session by reinforcing or expanding on the material you're presenting.
To use these questions as learning tools, it’s essential to be thoroughly prepared and to listen attentively.
As any experienced trainer knows, preparation is key to a successful session.
This includes being ready for the questions that may arise.
Anticipate the types of questions your participants might ask. If you’ve led similar sessions before, you likely have a good sense of the kinds of questions that may come up.

Also, prepare for questions that are related to the topic but are less commonly asked.
Remember, the more preparation you put into potential questions, the fewer times you’ll be caught off guard.
Give your full attention to the person asking the question.
Before responding, repeat the question in your own words. This serves three important purposes:
No matter how well you prepare, there will be times when you don’t have an answer. If that happens, be honest. Let the group know you don’t have the answer but will find it.
If the question is easy to research and there’s time during a break, look it up and share the answer afterward.
If the question requires more in-depth research or time is limited, assure the group you’ll follow up—and make sure you do so promptly.
If someone asks a question about a topic you’ll cover later in the session, acknowledge it and let them know it will be addressed soon.
Once you reach that part of the session, check back with the participant to confirm their question was answered.
