Transportation leaders answer the call to fight human trafficking

Over 200 pledges in 100 days

Earlier this year, U.S. DOT Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao called on transportation leaders to join the fight against human trafficking. The agency invited transportation leaders to sign the National Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking pledge with a lofty goal: gather 100 pledges in 100 days.

The agency recently announced an overwhelming response to the pledge, noting that over 200 signatories have responded to the pledge. A total of 450 transportation leaders have signed the pledge, and the U.S. DOT continues to invite transportation leaders to join this important effort.

Human trafficking affects over 25 million people in the United States. It’s often called a hidden crime because it can be hard to spot. Carriers can help fight human trafficking by signing the pledge and training their drivers to recognize and report human trafficking.
