This training curriculum provides learners with an overview of hazardous substances, available information sources on the hazardous substances in the workplace, PPE that may be necessary in a spill event, and how to appropriately respond if an incidental spill occurs within the workplace.
Hazardous substances pose a variety of hazards to employees, property, and the environment. If a spill happens, the consequences can range from minor to catastrophic. Knowing how to respond appropriately can make a difference in the outcome and help to avoid serious consequences. Because OSHA requires any employee who assists with an incidental spill to be trained and authorized, it's critical that employees receive comprehensive training. If an incidental spill occurs, proper training will help them to respond safely in a logical sequence without delay.
J. J. Keller's Incidental Hazardous Spill Responder Training curriculum is designed to provide learners with an overview of hazardous substances, available information sources on the hazardous substances in the workplace, personal protective equipment (PPE) that may be necessary in a spill event, and how to appropriately respond if an incidental spill occurs within the workplace. Specifically, it covers an introduction to hazardous substances and the hazards of exposure; spill types and their common causes; Hazard Communication (HazCom) and the Globally Harmonized System (GHS); hand, foot, head, eye, face, and respiratory protection; and procedures to follow in the event of an incidental spill, including discovery, notification, response, and follow-up.
