CSA, which stands for Compliance, Safety, Accountability, is a driver and carrier monitoring and evaluation system that is designed to identify and intervene with drivers and carriers who are not in compliance with safety regulations. Both drivers and motor carriers are evaluated and scored using this methodology.
Simply put, CSA is a system used by the FMCSA to identify safety problems early so that they can be addressed before they lead to tragedies on the highway.
FMCSA does not require CSA training, but it is a wise best practice to keep drivers alert to new requirements placed on them by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and expectations placed on them by the motor carrier. This training may be used as a spring board to elaborate on any company policies toward the driver in regards to roadside inspection violations and crash history.
After completing this program, learners will be able to:
- Explain the purpose and goals of the CSA program.
- Describe how safety data is collected, measured, and evaluated under the program.
- List the seven BASICs and how violations get placed into each.
- Explain strategies for keeping BASIC scores low and avoiding FMCSA interventions

More than a quarter of all work-related fatalities occur in occupations that require driving, or the transportation of goods, making the need for defensive driving skills clear. In order to avoid injury, or worse, death, drivers need to understand what defensive driving really means and what unique challenges a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driver faces. Even if you're a veteran driver, you need to avoid becoming complacent.
Defensive driving begins with the principle that you can avoid being the cause of an accident and can avoid being involved in an accident caused by another driver's actions. Defensive driving involves intentionally driving in such a way as to reduce the risk of an accident.
Defensive Driving for CMV Drivers: Prepare is designed to help drivers develop their defensive driving skills. Specifically, it offers up best practices on how to anticipate the potential for danger and avoid it.
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
- Explain how being prepared impacts defensive driving
The program covers the following topics:
- Prepare
- Trip Planning
- Pre-Trip Inspection
- Healthy Habits

When you're out on the road, you see a lot of drivers: some good, some average, and some you never want to see again. You can't control what other drivers do. And you can't control the condition of the road or the hazards you encounter.
But there is one thing you can control all the time, and that's how you drive. No matter what type of vehicle you're in—a car, pickup truck, utility van, straight truck, or passenger van—when you drive defensively, your safety, and the safety of those around you, is in your hands.
Defensive driving combines planning, constant attention, and a positive, proactive attitude. It's not a question of if you'll face hazards on the road. It's a question of when.
This program is designed to help drivers avoid preventable injuries by recognizing and avoiding risks and adopting safe practices.
After completing this course, learners will be able to:
- Recognize and reduce risk before stepping into the vehicle by using trip planning and by conducting a pre-trip vehicle inspection
- Modify driving habits to safely drive in hazardous weather conditions
- Identify the dangers of distracted driving
- Describe how to see and anticipate not only what is happening around them, but also what might happen by:
- Being aware of surroundings,
- Perceiving what's going on around them
- Managing their speed and space accordingly
The J. J. Keller Defensive Driving for Light & Medium Duty Vehicles program covers the following topic:
- Preparation
- Trip Planning
- Pre-trip Vehicle Inspection
- Driving Hazards
- Driving Hazards

Fall protection is one of the most frequently cited OSHA violations, due to lack of proper equipment and training. It should come as no surprise then, that falls are the leading cause of death among private industry construction workers, accounting for over 35% of all fatalities. The next leading cause, struck by object, accounts for just under 10%.
Because of the risk of death from falling, OSHA requires the use of fall protection when working at heights of six feet or more above a lower level at all construction jobsites under CFR 1926 Subpart M, "Fall Protection."
This program is designed to help workers recognize the hazards of falling and how to minimize them. Specifically, it will cover the potential hazards and protective measures they can take to help prevent injuries while working on elevated working platforms and runways, or near floor, wall, or window openings.
After completing this program, learners will be able to:
- Explain potential fall hazards on the jobsite and describe appropriate ways to eliminate or prevent them
- Identify various forms of fall protection equipment and scenarios when each would be appropriate
- Recognize how to select, inspect, use, and store equipment properly

Falls are one of the most common causes of workplace injuries and deaths. Recently, the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicated slips, trips, and falls account for more than 300,000 nonfatal injuries and 800 fatal work injuries in one year.
OSHA requires the use of fall protection when working 4 feet or more above a lower level in all general industry workplaces under Subpart D, "Walking-Working Surfaces," because 81% of all falls to a lower level end fatally.
This program is designed to help learners understand OSHA fall protection requirements. Specifically, it will cover the potential hazards and protective measures you can take to help prevent injuries while working on elevated working platforms and runways, or near floor, wall or window openings.
After completing this program, learners will be able to:
