The Driver Training Series is a collection of training programs which emphasize the essential skills necessary for staying safe on the road. This series is appropriate for all levels of drivers, from the entry-level to the veteran driver.

Accident Procedures is designed to help drivers understand what to do after being involved in (or witnessing) an accident. Specifically, it covers the procedures drivers should follow in order to safely and legally deal with the situation in a short period of time

After completing this program, learners will be able to:

• Discuss the specific procedures to follow after an accident occurs
• Explain what to do once allowed to leave the scene of an accident

Improper brake adjustment is the most common reason tractor-trailers are placed out of service. Brake violations in general are among the most common vehicle violations written at the roadside. These defects and failures shouldn't happen with a well-maintained and regularly inspected vehicle. A professional CMV driver must ensure the brakes are working properly before every trip.

Air Brakes Training is designed to help drivers understand how the brake system works, how to properly inspect the brake system, and how to use brakes correctly so they don't wear too fast or fail when needed most.

After completing this course, learners will be able to:

• Explain air brake systems and how they work
• Describe how to inspect the brake system
• Explain how to use brakes correctly to prevent early wear and failure

Section 382.601 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) requires motor carriers to provide educational materials explaining the alcohol and drug regulations to their drivers. Motor carriers must also provide educational materials explaining the motor carrier's alcohol and drug policies and procedures. This course helps satisfy these requirements as mandated by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

The course covers the eleven items required by the regulation including alcohol and drug prohibitions, the types of tests required, testing procedures, consequences of violating the prohibitions, and the effects of alcohol abuse and drug use.

After completing this course, learners will be able to:

For linemen and other utility workers, death by electrocution is a daily hazard that requires attention. In the utility sector, awareness of electrical hazards must be a daily theme for safety and training professionals.

To reduce the risk of injury in the utility industry, trade associations and federal agencies now have many safe work practices and procedures in place to protect employees when working on or near energized electrical equipment and conductors. Current regulations and industry standards are now in place to protect electrical workers from the hazards of shock, electrocution, arc flash, and arc blast.

The two main regulatory bodies that govern electrical safety in the workplace are the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The National Fire Protection Association is recognized for providing information and guidelines that protect workers from electrical hazards, while OSHA is the enforcement agency for electrical safety in the workplace.

The purpose of the NFPA standard 70E (2024 edition) is to provide a standard for safety-related work practices for the construction, maintenance, operation and demolition of electrical systems in the workplace. This program covers awareness-level information for workers who have jobs or assignments that bring them into contact with electrical hazards, such as arc flash and electric shock. Completing this lesson does not designate an employee as an electrically-qualified worker.

In its basic terms, an arc flash is a short circuit and air is the conductor. Arc faults are similar to arc welding. Arc burns are the result of high temperatures produced by electric arcs or by explosions close to the body. If the current involved is great enough, these arcs can cause injury or can start a fire. Arc burns are similar to burns and blisters produced by any high temperature source.

This training is designed to educate unqualified employees (those who are not trained to work on or near exposed, energized parts) on the real, and dangerous, possibility of being injured by an arc flash.

After completing the Arc Flash/Arc Blast Safety & Awareness training, learners will be able to:

• Recognize and avoid arc flash/arc blast situations
• Explain what to do in the event of an arc flash/arc blast electrical emergency

Asbestos is a known human carcinogen. Exposure to it can cause very serious health conditions that can lead to disability and, in some cases, death. Therefore, it is extremely important to monitor and reduce workers' exposure.

• Describe what asbestos is, how they can become exposed, and the potential results of exposure
• Identify ways to help minimize exposure
• Explain additional requirements for when they are exposed to it in the workplace

This series is appropriate for all levels of truck drivers, from the entry-level to the veteran driver operating any type of straight truck.

Backing & Parking training is designed to help drivers understand the techniques that will help them avoid an accident or incident while backing and parking straight trucks. It addresses procedures drivers need to follow to avoid collisions, including causes, preventative measures, overhead obstructions, and good parking and backing techniques.

After completing this program, learners will be able to:

• Discuss how to avoid a fixed object collision while backing or parking
• Apply proper driving techniques to safely back and park a straight truck
• Identify ground-level, eye-level and overhead obstructions that have the potential to make contact with their truck

Truck backing counts as a very small percentage of a driver's driving time. But, the most common, and sometimes most costly, crashes or incidents in trucking involve backing. Backing incidents don't just damage trailers, buildings, and other equipment; sometimes they're fatal.

This program is designed to help reduce the number of backing accidents by teaching drivers how to recognize the dangers of backing and provide expert-level backing procedures. It covers the proper procedures for each backing maneuver, including straight-line, alley dock, sight-side jackknife, and blind-side jackknife backing and parallel parking.

After completing this program, learners will be able to:

• Recognize the dangers of backing
• Recall general backing guidelines
• Apply good backing techniques and appropriate backing maneuvers based on the situation
